Nata nel 1965, la Casa Editrice Longo ha iniziato occupandosi di arte e critica letteraria.
Sin dalle prime collane è stata fatta una scelta editoriale precisa:
dare strumenti di analisi, di indagine e di informazione ad un vasto pubblico colto, italiano e straniero.
unire alla qualità e serietà scientifiche una struttura dei testi agile e stimolante e produrre lavori che fossero voci significative di diverse correnti metodologiche.
L’attività della casa editrice è stata da sempre contraddistinta dall’apertura e dalla collaborazione con Università, Istituzioni, studiosi stranieri, in particolare nord-americani, ma anche australiani, europei, asiatici, per una migliore conoscenza e diffusione della cultura e della lingua italiana.
