The "Europe and the Balkans" International Network was established by 12 scholars from 4 countries (Italy, United Kingdom, Greece and Denmark) in 1993, thanks to the financial support of the European Commission (Human Capital and Mobility Program).
Since then, the Network has greatly expanded and currently includes over 250 scholars from 36 European countries, the United States and Canada.
The Network has a flexible structure and is coordinated by the Institute for Central Eastern and Balkan Europe.
Supported by the Alma Mater-University of Bologna, the City Council of Forlì, the Region Emilia-Romagna and the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Network aims at developing research and training in the fields of politics, economics, law, history, linguistics and culture, promoting, in Italy and in Europe, the knowledge about Central Eastern and Balkan Europe.
Moreover, looking towards a wider European integration process, it fosters international talk and interdisciplinarity as a method of work, and encourages dialogue and communication even in those contexts that have suffered severely because of disastrous conflicts.
The Network has its own Electronic Newsletter (one every two/three months) informing both the member scholars and the public about all the activities which are carried out both in the headquarters of Forlì, and in all the countries of the Network.
The Network promotes and collaborates to numerous research activities or events, among which we mention:
